I have a weak spot for homemade cookies. There’s just something about
a warm oatmeal chocolate chip cookie that must be eaten. I’m glad to
make those cookies, I’m also quite happy that it’s not too often, I don’t
know if I could handle all the temptation. The funny thing is, when I think
about what goes into my favourite cookies, the actual ingredients, they
don’t sound like something I want to put in my mouth and enjoy.
By themselves, many of these things would not be pleasant at all! Imagine
eating these ingredients without mixing them together, dry oatmeal, flour,
salt, a raw egg, a stick of butter, baking soda. Not only would many of
these things be next to impossible to chew and swallow, some of them
would make most of us gag and a few of us would probably get sick!
Life can be just like the ingredients in my favourite homemade cookies.  
When the circumstances of our lives are seen and experienced one at time,
they can be overwhelming. Things, can and do, happen that are not at all
pleasant .  We can go through things that we find next to impossible to
chew and swallow. When I find myself in a situation like this, I take
courage in that God has an amazing way of taking the individual ingredients
of our lives, the hard ones, the good ones, the bad ones, the every day ones
and making something beautiful out of them!  He probably won’t do it in a
few minutes, like it takes with my cookies, or even in a few weeks or
months, but over the course of our lives, when we trust in Him, God will
work the events of our lives for His glory and for our good! God takes the
impossible, the mess we find ourselves in, and makes His way possible in it.
When we trust Him, God works the ingredients of life together for good!
 
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or
imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be
glory in the Church[ that’s us!] and in Christ Jesus throughout all
generations,  for ever and ever!             Ephesians 3:20, 21

A SOLDIERS PRAYER

Brave warriors,
should fate find us in battle,
May our cause be just.
May our leaders have clear vision.
May our courage not falter.
May we be triumphant an earn victory
as we show mercy to our enemies.
May our efforts bring lasting peace.
May our sacrifice be always
appreciated by those we serve.
May we return to our loved ones unharmed.
Should we be harmed, may our wounds heal.
Should we perish in the struggle,
may God embrace us and find for us
a place in His Kingdom.
